No city, large or small, could do better

To the Editor:
Well, what did you think about the program celebrating the Fourth of July?
This was probably better than what you could have seen in any city larger than Atmore. It had something for everyone, and if you could not find anything for yourself, you should not have been there.
This was the brainchild of one individual who fought against all odds of pulling it off without a hitch, but he did. I personally want to thank Jerry Gehman, his brother David, and the Gehman family for all the hard work they put into this celebration.
I hope they will plan on next year's program, but I hope more people and the city will push it and work toward making it bigger and better if that can be done.
Thanks to the ones who donated funds toward this. Some people may think this is a waste of money, but from a veteran's standpoint, it is nice to see a city remember the birth of their country, their veterans and others who served to give them the peace and liberty they enjoy.
Thanks also to the many veterans who turned out for the event. As the news article said, there were tears in the eyes of some of the veterans and I am not ashamed to admit I was one of them.
Thanks again to Jerry and the people of Atmore. This was something all of you can be proud of.
