Eleven young women from Escambia County have spent the past several weeks preparing for the upcoming Junior Miss Scholarship Program
The overall winner of the program will be named Escambia County Junior Miss 2001, earn a $2,500 scholarship and the right to represent the county at the Alabama Junior Miss Program.
The Escambia County Junior Miss 2001 scholarship program will be held this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Woodfin Patterson Auditorium on the campus of Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton. Admission is $5 with children under the age of 10 admitted free.
This year's participants in the Escambia County Junior Miss 2001 Scholarship Program are:
Casey Bennett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan A. Bennett, is a student at Escambia County High School. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and become a doctor.
Her activities and honors include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Student Government Association, Junior Class Favorite, Junior Class Beauty, National Honor Society, captain of the varsity cheerleaders, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Girls' State alternate, ballet instructor at the YMCA and Miss Escambia County High School.
In the talent portion of the program, Bennett will sing "Broadway Baby."
Cassie Boatwright, the daughter of Thomas and Dianne Boatwright, is a student at Mobile School of Math and Science. She plans to attend Auburn University and study architecture or oncology.
Her activities and honors include the Key Club, Junior Civitan Club, Most Popular, Best Dressed, Scholar's Bowl, Top 5 in Miss Atmore Pageant, one of the first juniors to be accepted to UAB, and Hiking, Biking and Other Clubs (HBO Club).
In the talent portion of the program, Boatwright will perform a ballroom dance to "Mambo, Mambo" by Lou Bega.
Rebecca Bracken, the daughter of Robert M. and Kay C. Bracken, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She plans to attend Jefferson Davis Community College and Auburn University and study occupational therapy or radiological sciences.
Her activities and honors include Top Ten, National Honor Society, T.R. Miller majorette, Concert Band, Solo and Ensemble, Dr. Tim Leadership Clinic, Yearbook staff, Who's Who Among American High School Seniors, second place art show winner, Pep Club and her church youth group.
In the talent portion of the program, Bracken will sing "Dance With Me."
Lauren Cauley, the daughter of Ron and Sandy Cauley, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She plans to attend Auburn University and study infant audiology.
Her activities and honors include National Honor Society, SGA, majorettes, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Spanish Club, Pep Club, Brewton Dance Studio Twirl Team, Bible Club, Fellowship of Christian Students and Solo and Ensemble Medalist.
In the talent portion of the program, Cauley will perform the "Dance of the Swans" ballet.
Leah Douglas, the daughter of Erik and Susan Douglas, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She plans to attend Birmingham Southern College and become an orthopedic surgeon.
Her activities and honors include Class Officer, All "A" Honor Roll, Pep Club, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Spanish Club, Concert and Marching Band and Solo and Ensemble.
In the talent portion of the program, Douglas will perform a gymnastics and theatrical dance presentation entitled "Mr. Mistoffelees" by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Donielle Dubose, the daughter of Donnie Dubose and Paula Dubose, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and become an entrepreneur.
Her activities and honors include Class Officer, Leadership Conference at the University of Alabama, Student Government Association, Freshman Homecom-ing Attendant, National Honor Society, Junior Miss Little Sister, Kaleidoscope Literary Magazine, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Marching and Symphonic Band, Oboe Section Leader, majorette, Solo and Ensemble Medalist, Spanish Club, Pep Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
In the talent portion of the program, Dubose will perform ballet on pointe.
Elizabeth Glavan, the daughter of Mike and Ann Glavan, is a student at Escambia Academy. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and pursue a career in theatre performance or broadcast journalism.
Her activities and honors include Girls State representative, People to People Student Ambassador, Junior Class Vice President, Pep Club, Summa Cum Laude on National Latin Exam, The "Prowler" Yearbook Staff, Atmore Area Juniorettes Club, first-runner up in the Miss Atmore Pageant 2000.
In the talent portion of the program, Glavan will perform a dramatic song entitled "Reflection."
JoEllen Madden, the daughter of Carl and Jolene Madden, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and become an oral surgeon.
Her activities and honors include National Honor Society, Marching and Concert Band, Student Government, Spanish Club, History Club, Pep Club, Top Ten, Varsity Cheerleader Captain, Who's Who Among American High School Students and the Fellowship of Christian Students.
In the talent portion of the program, Madden will present "Miss Raggedy Ann."
Emily Neal, the daughter of Waymon and Phyllis Neal, is a student at Flomaton High School. She plans to attend the University of Alabama and study law.
Her activities and honors include Student Council, All-American Nominee at NCA Camp Summer 1999, 12th grade secretary, Beta Club, Jr. Core Team, Miss FHS Pageant, Top Ten and Who's Who Among American High School Students.
In the talent portion of the program, Neal will perform "Solfeggietto" by Carl Bach on the piano.
Tiffany Scott, the daughter of Russell and Stephanie Scott, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She has not decided on a college. She plans to become a pediatrician or biology professor.
Her activities and honors include All-State/All-District Band, Kaleidoscope staff, HOBY Leadership Representative, SGA, Southern Pine Youth Tour representative, Student Council, Top Ten, National Honor Society and Math Team.
In the talent portion of the program, Scott will perform a sign language/interpretive dance to an excerpt from "Breath of Heaven" by Chris Eaton and Amy Grant.
Ashley Tyler, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Taylor, is a student at T.R. Miller High School. She plans to attend Auburn University and study to become a certified public accountant.
Her activities and honors include National Honor Society, Drum Major, Math Team, All-State/All-District Honor Bands, Science Team, Color Guard, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Varsity Softball, Who's Who Among American High School Students and Marching and Symphonic Bands.
In the talent portion of the program, Tyler will sing "Higher Ground" from the musical presentation The Journey.
