Bradley E. Smith resigned as the administrator of Escambia County 911 last week. He has held the position since the board was established seven years ago.
Smith said he and the board agreed that he would leave and that his leaving was amiable.
Smith said he asked to be released from his employment contract and the board agreed. His contract does not expire until Sept. 30, 2003. He was not terminated, and the board agreed on a severance package.
When county officials and law enforcement agencies decided to establish an enhanced 911 system in the county, they hired Smith as director. He had moved to this area to accept the pastorate at a church in Booneville and was still pastoring when he started working with the 911 system.
As 911 administrator, he coordinated mapping, equipment, naming and renaming of roads and re-addressing. He also coordinated the agencies that needed to be involved.
Smith said he has offered his services to the board on a consulting basis should the need arise.
Smith said he wishes the next director much success and he harbors no animosity toward the next director or the board members.
Members of the board are Chairman Robert Knowles, Charlotte Boyle, Rusty Harrison, Pat Kelly, Larry Padgett, Bill Smith and Douglas L. Welch.
Smith said he and his family would like to stay in this area if possible.
