The process has begun to narrow the field of applicants for the principal's position at Escambia County High School.
As of the July 28 deadline, 14 applications have been received, according to Teresa Phillips, executive assistant to Board of Education Superintendent Dr. Margaret Breland-Bradley. One of those is from within the county system. Several are from within the area.
At the last board meeting, Patsy Jacks was named assistant principal, filling one of the two assistant jobs open.
Dr. Bradley said former principal Terrance Mixon, who resigned to take the principal's position at Williamson High School in Mobile, has come back to the school several times to work on scheduling so that new programs can remain in place.
Once Dr. Bradley reviews the revised list, she will choose one to recommend to the board.
A couple of budget hearings are set for August. One of those is scheduled to be followed by a special meeting. The next regular meeting will be held in August in Atmore.
Dr. Bradley is confident the high school administration will be ready for the beginning of school.
