Mr. Jeremiah Ford Sr., 90, died Monday, July 24, 2000 in New York, N.Y.
Mr. Ford was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps and a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He resided in New York and was a cook, a tailor and an attendant for a large real estate developer. He was a member of Bethel Tabernacle A. M. E. Church where he served on the steward and trustee boards. He and his wife moved to Atmore and became a member of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church where is was a member of the chorus, trustee and treasurer. He was also a member of Good Hope Lodge #152 in Atmore.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Millie Dewise Ford.
Mr. Ford is survived by a son, Jeremiah Ford Jr. and his wife, Sarah Diane, of St. Albans, N.Y.; a grandson, Thomas Charles Ford of St. Albans; a granddaughter, Lydia Angelica Ford of St. Albans; a sister-in-law, Irene Benboe and her husband, Curtis of Pensacola; a brother-in-law, Luther Campbell and his wife, Thelma, of Lexington, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 1 at 1 p.m. at Gaines Chapel A. M. E. Church with the Rev. Timothy Days officiating.
Burial was at Lucious Cemetery.
Active pall bearers were nephews and friends. Honorary pall bearers were trustees, missionaries and friends.
Robinson Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
