Two people died this past weekend and two others were wounded after a domestic situation became violent.
Local authorities said evidence has led them to believe that Scottie Riley, a 22 year-old of Atmore, shot three victims at 111 Martin Luther King Drive and then turned the gun on himself.
Latoria McCullam, a 22 year-old of Atmore, was found by police dead at the scene as a result of a single gunshot wound. Pinned under her body was the 2 year-old child of Riley and McCullam. The child was not injured.
Felicia Jones, a 20 year-old female of Atmore and McCullam's sister, and Linda George, her 39 year-old mother, were also injured in the shooting which took place on the carport of George's residence.
The Atmore police received the initial call at 8:12 p.m. Saturday.
One of the bodies was found on the floor of the carport and the other on a landing leading up to the house. Jones, who was still conscious when the officers arrived, was found in the yard.
Jones was transported from the scene by Atmore Ambulance Service to Atmore Community Hospital to be treated.
The only person uninjured in the incident was Riley and McCullam's 2 year-old daughter.
George suffered an unknown number of gunshot wounds, but McKinley said it was at least three. She underwent surgery at Atmore Community Hospital and is currently listed as stable.
Jones was flown from Atmore Community Hospital to Baptist Medical Center in Pensacola where she was treated for a single gunshot wound to the head. McKinley said at his latest report both victims appeared to be out of danger.
Riley and McCullam were both shot one time.
Authorities believe the incident began when Riley went to the home of George to see McCullam who had moved in with her mother during a separation from him. At some point Riley and McCullam started arguing, and he allegedly pulled out a .38 caliber semi-automatic pistol and shot McCullam, George and Jones before turning the gun on himself.
This was not Riley's first show of violence. He was arrested by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office on January 23, 1999 for assault, third degree. In that incident, Riley had allegedly struck another female several times on the head with a knife. He posted bond the day after his arrest.
Riley appeared in district court on Feb. 28 where he pled guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay a $100 fine for court costs and attend a perpetrator program (anger management class).
The Atmore Police Department called the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to assist with the investigation. A crime scene investigator and a pathologist were sent to Atmore Saturday evening to assist with processing the crime scene.
McKinley said the case is still under investigation at this time, but that all evidence seems to be pointing in the same direction.
McKinley also said local officers performed their duties very well.
