With a new coach and new approach, the Northview High School Chiefs are ready to put hours of hard work and sweat to the test in a preseason warm-up against Flomaton this Saturday.
In his first season with the Chiefs, head coach David Williams is trying to turn around a team that went 0-10 last season.
Returning players have not only had to get to know a new coach, many also have been getting acquainted with new positions as Williams has moved many around.
Williams said he and his staff are approaching the game as a learning experience and to see where the team is as the season approaches.
While the coaches will be assessing the performance, Williams said most players would be concerned with the final score.
With 28 players on this year's roster, Williams said everybody should get an opportunity to play, including both quarterbacks – Cal Williamson and Daniel Kelley.
There will be four runningbacks sharing the time out of the backfield for Northview during the contest.
Despite weeks of long practices and intense conditioning sessions, Williams is still concerned with fatigue.
The kickoff classic gives the Chiefs an opportunity to start the season one week early, which may give them an edge in upcoming weeks.
The game, which is being played as part of the Cow Pattie Festival, will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Northview High School Stadium.
