He had his notes in hand when he walked in the door.
The notes were for a speech he was to give to a group of teachers, all members of Delta Kappa Gamma.
What Buck Powell didn't know was it was all a ploy to get him to Gerlach's Restaurant.
The teachers, faculty and staff at Rachel Patterson Elementary held a surprise reception for Buck Powell Thursday afternoon. The reception was to wish him well as he takes the reigns of the county school system.
Powell was given two gifts by the Rachel Patterson staff. He received a clock and a pen and pencil set each engraved with superintendent.
Joining Powell and the Rachel Patterson staff were school system supervisors and retired employees who worked for Powell at the school.
