To the Editor:
We are inviting everyone to become a founding member of the Greater Escambia Council for the Arts. This is an organization committed to promoting the Arts in the Escambia County area, providing opportunities for creative people to express themselves, enrich the cultural life of the citizens of the area, and promoting family friendly opportunities for entertainment and recreation. The same team that brought you "The Sound of Music" this summer is organizing this meeting. If you would like to be a part of this new endeavor, then we would love to have you join.
Our first meeting is scheduled for September 14th, 7 p.m. at Wisteria on N. Main Street in Atmore, across from the post office. This is open to anyone interested in the arts or wanting to promote the arts in the Escambia County area. The membership is limited to those 16 and over, but all are invited to attend.
At this meeting we will discuss our inaugural calendar for the year 2001, membership guidelines and promotions, elect a leadership council and take suggestions from you on how we can best serve the area.
Some of the things proposed for the 2001 calendar include: a spring dinner theater, area wide student arts contest, talent show, summer musical concerts in the park, an arts and crafts workshop and an all-day Christmas music spectacular.
We cannot do this without participation from the community, so if you would be willing to help, or if you just wish to be a financial supporter, please come to this meeting September 14th. Help us make this area a better place to live.
Thank you for your consideration.
Phillip B. Johnson
