Vanity Fair is always looking for a way to help raise money for the United Fund and this year they are trying something new – a yard sale.
The sale will come as the grand finale of a three-week campaign at the Atmore industry to raise money to be given to the United Fund.
The sale is designed to help raise money in different ways. First, an employee must purchase tables and racks at the yard sale. If they purchase the space they may bring the items they wish to sell.
Some employees just want to free up some space in their garage and have donated property to Vanity Fair for them to sell with the proceeds going to the United Fund.
The third way for money to be raised is for the employees to buy a table or rack and then give the money they raise from selling their own merchandise.
In all three cases, the winner is the United Fund.
Delores Sternum of Vanity Fair said the potential for the yard sale is exciting, but it was too early to know how successful the new venture will be.
The yard sale is the final event of the fund-raising drive at Vanity Fair. For the past two weeks they have hosted several events aimed at raising more money. On Monday, many people around town enjoyed a $5 catfish dinner they sponsored. They have also been selling Boston Butts and other dinners to employees during the breaks.
On Friday, the company will announce the winners of a silent auction that has been ongoing during the drive.
Right now, Sternum said she feels that Vanity Fair is well on there way to raising as much money as they did last year.
Like past projects, if the yard sale is a success then they will put it on their list of annual fundraisers. Of course, that will depend on how the community reacts.
Vanity Fair has been a big contributor to the United Fund for several years and Sternum said giving to the charity is their way of thanking the community.
