A Foley resident was seriously wounded after a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Atmore.
Edgar Nettles, a 27 year-old male of Foley, Ala., sustained a wound to his head and was life-flighted from Atmore Community Hospital to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola on Tuesday. Police Chief Danny McKinley said at his last report the victim's injury was very serious, but not life threatening.
The Atmore Police Department's first call regarding the shooting came some time between 2:15 and 2:30 a.m. McKinley said a passerby reported seeing two people lying in the road on Maxwell Street.
Shortly after the shooting, Atmore Community Hospital informed local authorities that a victim of a gunshot wound to the head had checked in.
Police were able to speak with Nettles after receiving treatment at Atmore Community Hospital.
McKinley said the wound appeared to be a "grazed" wound rather than an actual bullet wound into the head.
Police are still investigating to determine who the second person was seen lying in the street.
McKinley said that investigating officers feel strongly that Nettles was one of those two people lying in the street.
As of Tuesday afternoon no arrests had been made regarding the case.
Investigators did not want to disclose too many details regarding the case as it could affect the investigation.
He said the department will release more information as it becomes available.
McKinley said that Nettles told them he had relatives who lived in Atmore.
Chief McKinley asks that if anyone has information regarding this incident to call the police station at 334-368-9141.
