The Northview Chiefs may have had their playoff hopes crushed last week in a heartbreaking loss to Catholic, but their season is not over and they go into this week's game against Navarre looking for another victory to avoid a losing season.
Head coach David Williams said this will be an emotional game and that the players will want to win it for several reasons.
With a record of 4-5, the Chiefs have already made an improvement on last season's 0-10 record. But, Williams said avoiding another losing season is important for the players and coaches.
The Chiefs hope to get control of the game early this Friday. Last week's come-from-behind victory for Catholic was only the latest in a long list of nail-biters for Northview.
Navarre will bring a potent offense to Northview and the Chiefs will have to slow down a good passing attack that is complimented by a steady running game.
Offensively, the Chiefs hope to get a balanced attack. Last week, the Chiefs threw 23 passes and ran the ball about 33 times.
Navarre is coming off a 56-0 win over Gulf Shores. Williamson said their poor record (3-6) is not a good indicator of their talent.
The Chiefs are looking forward to playing in their own stadium for the first time in five games.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. A pre-game ceremony honoring seniors will be held prior to the game.
