Escambia County (Ala.) Superintendent of Education Buck Powell is appealing to Atmore parents to support the 5 mill ad valorem tax on next Tuesday's ballot. Recently, he sent a letter to local parents asking them to vote yes on the tax which benefits the four schools in Atmore.
Last year, Rachel Patterson Elementary, A.C. Moore Elementary, Escambia County Middle School and Escambia County High School shared more than $215,000 generated by the ad valorem tax.
According to Powell, money from this tax has been instrumental in providing additional programs such as middle school band, middle and high school choral programs and high school foreign language programs. It has also been used to fund six to seven teacher units as well as additional assistant principals at Escambia County middle and high schools.
Only residents in the Atmore city limits are eligible to vote in Tuesday's election.
City Clerk Becca Smith said all five city districts will vote at Atmore City Hall. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
