A McDavid woman and former Canoe resident died in an automobile accident early Monday morning.
Patricia Beth Goodale, 26, was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 29 at approximately 1 a.m. when she lost control of her 1996 Oldsmobile and crashed into a stop sign at Byrneville Road. The collision caused the car to overturn into a drainage ditch about 100 yards away. Goodale was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred 1.9 miles south of Century, which also was the location of another vehicle accident fatality six hours earlier.
Florida Highway Patrolman Crp. Daniel Maddox said Goodale's vehicle drove onto the west-side shoulder of the road for 244 feet before colliding with the stop sign. From there, the vehicle continued south, traveling 99 feet into a drainage ditch on the right side of the Highway 29.
Paramedic Joe Mack pronounced Goodale dead on the scene at 1:16 a.m.
Maddox said an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the accident.
Maddox said Goodale was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
