An Atmore woman was stabbed to death on New Year's Eve. Her assailant is in a Mobile hospital following an apparent suicide attempt.
Jomika Williams, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene, allegedly stabbed by her boyfriend, McGregory Riley, 32. Riley is in the University of South Alabama Medical Center and was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon.
Atmore Police Chief Danny McKinley said the department received a call Sunday morning from 911 dispatch. Riley had called 911 and stated that he had killed his girlfriend. The call was from 298 Jack Springs Road, Apt. 3B, Pines Apartments.
Officer Leon Kizer was the first responder.
Officers immediately placed Riley in custody.
They discovered that Williams apparently had been dead for quite some time.
During the investigation interview, Riley told officers he had taken 150 Tylenol tablets. The interview was halted immediately and Riley was taken to Atmore Community Hospital. He was later transferred to USA Medical Center.
McKinley said that if Riley survives, he will be charged with murder. Upon release from the hospital, he will be transported to the Escambia County Jail.
