Emily Hardy has spent much of her high school days on the hardwood floor of the Escambia Academy gymnasium. If she wasn't there playing in a game for the Lady Cougars, she was likely there practicing.
During her five years on the varsity team, she has taken part in many accomplishments including one state title and four appearance in the final eight. But, this week she was recognized for her individual effort as the Alabama Independent Schools Association tapped her as one of twelve players across the state to make up the AISA West All-Star Team.
The team is composed of the best senior players from 1A-3A independent schools. There are 12 players selected from both the east and west portions of the state.
Hardy's coach, Chad Prewett said that hard work has helped her become a versatile and dynamic player.
As the only senior on EA's team, Hardy was a vocal leader who helped her team to an area championship and a record of 21-6.
Along with solid defensive skills and a leader on the floor, Hardy has also worked to become a danger to opposing defenses.
Hardy, who has plans to attend Auburn University upon graduating from EA this summer, said she will miss being a Lady Cougar.
Prewett said he, and the entire campus, is proud to have a student recognized with such a high honor.
Hardy will leave for two days of practices on Thursday, Feb. 22. The All-Star game between the East and West will be held at Huntingdon College in Montgomery at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.
