Last year's Fourth of July fireworks show was the first in nine years, and it may have been the last for years to come.
Mayor Howard Shell announced at Monday's city council meeting that the city is being sued by a woman who was injured during the show last year.
Dana Michelle Howard has filed a notice of claim against the city "for personal injuries and damages resulting from the negligence and/or wanton conduct of the City of Atmore, Alabama, its agents, servants or employees, in purchasing, designing, training employees, constructing, maintaining and firing a 4th of July fireworks display."
In the statement, Howard alleges that she was watching the fireworks from a place she was directed to by Atmore police officers.
The claim is notarized but not signed by an attorney, nor does Howard ask for a specific amount of money.
Shell said the claim has been turned over the city's insurance company.
