Atmore native and Huffman High School Football Coach Curtis Coleman was named the 2000 North/East coach of the year by The Birmingham News earlier this year.
Coleman led the Vikings to their first undefeated regular season ever and on to the third round of the 6A state playoffs where they were defeated by Grissom High School, 28-21.
In fact, upon losing that game, Coleman returned to Atmore to go fishing with his brothers, Gregory Coleman and Rodney Johnson.
Despite the individual honors, Coleman said his team benefitted from the wisdom and experience of others too.
He also said that a key to the Vikings' success was that his players believed in his way of doing things.
The loss in the third round to Grissom was tough on Coleman and his team.
