The Alabama Attorney General's office has requested execution dates for four men on Alabama's death row.
They may be the first in Alabama history to be offered a choice of execution method – electric chair or lethal injection.
But first the Alabama Legislature has to dispense with the special session on education.
The House of Representatives passed a bill allowing inmates to choose lethal injection or electrocution. The bill is sitting in the Senate.
Whether the four death row inmates have a choice depends on when and if the Senate passes the bill and on when the execution dates are set.
The inmates are Thomas Douglas Arthur, convicted in Jefferson County, on death row 18 years; Danny Joe Bradley, convicted in Calhoun County, on death row 17 1/2 years; Glenn Holiday, convicted in Etowah County, on death row for 13 1/2 years; Christopher Barbour, convicted in Montgomery County, on death row for seven years.
