Three people were injured in a two-car collision at the intersection of Main and Craig streets early Friday evening.
Eva Mabin Sylvester, Aretha Mabin Taylor, both of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Harold Cox of Atmore were all injured and taken to Atmore Community Hospital as a result of the wreck. Taylor was a passenger in an automobile driven by Sylvester.
Emergency personnel responded at approximately 5:04 p.m.
Atmore Police Chief Danny McKinley said the accident occurred as Sylvester was turning her 1982 Mercury Lynx left onto Craig from the southbound lane on Main Street. The report shows that while Sylvester was waiting to turn east onto Craig, another vehicle, heading north on Main was waiting to turn left, or west, onto Craig.
As Sylvester began to turn she was hit by a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta driven by Cox in the outside lane of traffic. The accident report shows that Sylvester may have been blinded by the opposing car waiting to turn and was unable to see the Oldsmobile coming.
All three victims were transported to the hospital by Atmore Ambulance Service.
McKinley said this type accident has occurred at that intersection in the past.
