To the editor:
The Escambia County 4-H Steer Show was held on Thursday, March 1, in Brewton. The show was a big success.
We all participated in the show. We would like to say a special thank you to some people who made it enjoyable, exciting and successful.
Robert Hollingsworth's hard work and dedication was greatly appreciated. Robert worked very hard and helped each one of us get our show calves in and out of the show ring. He was right there at all times to make sure none of us were hurt. We thank you.
Buddy Lowrey kept in touch with our parents from the beginning as to how our calves were growing and whether they were finished out. He helped us get our calves clipped and groomed for the show. He gave guidance and advice and we did appreciate it.
Melissa Seales and her girls loaned us the use of their blow dryer that they had used when they were participating in the shows. It really made things go a lot quicker. We thank you.
Threse Henry gave us a donation of hay stacks for the calves to have while in the stalls. We did appreciate it.
Scotty Flowers made sure all the equipment was taken to Brewton the night before the show. We thank you.
John Flowers and Billy Smith made sure the calves got transported to the show and back. Thank you.
We're sure we have probably forgotten to mention some individuals. If so, please forgive us and we do thank all of the people who helped.
To the buyers: We thank each buyer who came to Brewton for the sale that night following the show. The price that the calves are sold for that night is what the children who participate get for their calves. The buyers made sure the price stayed up so the children would make a good profit.
We would like to say a special thank you to the following:
Escambia County Farmers Federation for the purchase of Jeremy's calf;
McMillian Trust for the purchase of Holly's calf;
Shorty Floyd for the purchase of Kyle's calf;
Moley Herring with Lucedale Livestock for the purchase of Kyle's other calf.
Again, we really want to extend a tremendous thank you to all of the above and to anyone that we may have missed. We are looking forward to the steer show next year.
Sincerely,
Holly Gunn
