Any individual who jokes about school violence in Escambia County, Fla., may find that the joke is on him.
Tuesday, Superintendent of Education Jim Paul issued a memorandum to district employees, students and the community on school safety. Threats made in jest will be considered the same as serious threats. The consequences will be suspension and possible expulsion.
In his memo, Paul said that many school districts throughout the country have been plagued with copy cat threats and that Escambia County has not been spared in this regard.
Paul said every threat of bodily harm has been investigated aggressively by school and law enforcement officials and appropriate actions have been taken.
