Freddie Miller can look at a gourd and see an angel or a birdhouse or a bowl.
She can envision two hands holding flower pots. That would be the Garden Lady.
She can see a stately and dignified English gentleman. That would be Sir Frederick.
She can see a birdhouse with a mama bird at the top of the long neck and the father bird on the lower round part.
And then she paints what she "sees."
Every day, Miller sits at the island in her kitchen, bringing gourds to life with paint.
Miller, who has painted on canvas for years, said gourds are just another canvas.
The bowls are lacquered inside and therefore are functional. The birdhouses are painted with indoor/outdoor paint, but Miller does not recommend hanging them outside.
This Saturday, she'll take her collection to Mayfest for their debut.
