A work release inmate walked off the job Tuesday afternoon but he did not get very far before law enforcement officials tracked him down.
Christopher Pennington, a 21-year-old male, was working along with other inmates at Stallworth Cemetery on Highway 31 when he allegedly made an escape attempt.
J.O. Davis Community Work Facility Captain Walter Allen said Pennington left the cemetery by foot at approximately 12:15 p.m. He was back in custody by 1:10 p.m.
Tracking dogs were called out and check points were set up along Highway 21. The Escambia County Sheriff's Department also assisted in the search.
The escapee was found and taken into custody as he approached Highway 21 near the vicinity of Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pennington is serving a 15-year sentence for robbery, second degree and forgery, second degree. Both charges stem out of Marion County.
