Mrs. Bertha L. (Bertie) Sanders, 64, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at West Florida Medical Center.
Mrs. Sanders was a lifelong resident of Walnut Hill. She was a non-denominational minister and also served as a missionary.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Barnes.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, David A. Sanders of Walnut Hill; two sons, Mitchell Paul Lyell of Lawrenville, Ill. and John Lyell Jr. of St. Francisville, Ill.; a daughter, Sandra Joyce Lyell Mardyla of St. Francisville; five brothers, Sherman Barnes, Dexter Barnes and Leslie Barnes, all of Bratt, Wendall Barnes of Milton and Grover Barnes of Atmore; two sisters, Atha Walter and Thelma Barnes Holmes, both of Bratt; and six grandchildren, Danielle Hankins, Lillie Jay Hankins, Mick Hankins, Tyler Mardyla, Kelly Lyell and Gabrielle Lyell.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Ricky Peebles and Theon Collingsworth officiating.
Burial was at Godwin Cemetery.
Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
