Mr. Wiley Trammel Byrd Sr. died Friday, May 25, 2001 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City.
He was a native of Canoe and current resident of Marianna. He served four years in the Army Transportation Corps in the South Pacific in WW II, and six months in the Air Force during the Korean war, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a 15-year employee of Muldon Ford Dealers of Pensacola and retired from Gulf Power after 30 years. Mr. Byrd was chairman of the board of trustees of Marianna Housing Authority, president of Woodmen of the World Lodge 65, a former member of Walnut Hill Ruritan Club and a member of First Baptist Church of Marianna where he was a Sunday School Director of Adult 6 and a member of Roy Beall Sunday School class. He sang with the "Ugly Brothers" quartet and occasionally with the Glover Family.
Mr. Byrd is preceded in death by his parents, Walter H. and Lena White Byrd; three sisters, Lois B. Baggett, Allie Mae B. Glass and Bessie B. Mullins.
Mr. Byrd is survived by two sons, Wiley T. "Buddy" Byrd II of Marianna and Steven L. Byrd and his wife, Sue, of Walnut Hill; Wanetta A. McGinty and her husband, Thomas, of Walnut Hill; E. LaVoone Swindle and her husband, Danny, of Kennesaw, Ga., and Rhonda K. Byrd of Marianna; 12 grandchildren, Leslie Lynn, and Laine McGinty, Shannon, Shane, and Zack Byrd, Wiley T "Johnny" Byrd III, Anneka Byrd, Teegan Swindle, Deana Coursey and her husband, Jack, Jennifer Carstens and her husband, Eric, Tanaia F. Gleason and her husband, Gabe; a sister, Helen Byrd Burke; four great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 28 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Marianna with Michael Petty officiating.
Burial followed at Walnut Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Danny Swindle officiating a graveside service.
Lord Funeral Home in Marianna was in charge of arrangements.
