An Atmore man died as a result of a gunshot wound sustained after an argument at a party Saturday night.
Willie Glenn Matthews, a 37-year-old of Martin Luther King Drive, was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m. Saturday after being transported to Atmore Community Hospital.
Ronnie James, a 38-year-old male of Freemanville, turned himself in to Atmore police at approximately 8:30 a.m., two-and-a-half hours after the shooting occurred, according to Atmore Police Chief Danny McKinley. He has been charged with murder.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of MLK and Carver Avenue. McKinley said both men were guests at a residence and were on the front porch when an argument took place.
The single shot hit Matthews in the leg. McKinley said the bullet may have hit a major blood vessel as the victim died due to a loss of blood.
When officers responded to the scene at 6 p.m., McKinley said a registered nurse who happened to be in the area was rendering first aid.
The body of the victim has been transported the the state's forensics laboratory.
