Three members of the Escambia County Commission recently joined an elite group of county officials in Alabama by completing 50 hours of training from the Alabama Local Government Training Institute on the basic responsibilities of a county commission. The program emphasized budgeting, personnel matters, planning and road and bridge responsibilities.
Escambia County Commis-sioners Todd Williamson, James "Junior" Hall and Wiley Tait were recognized for completing 50 hours of training.
The officials were honored Thursday during the Awards Ceremony of the 73rd Annual Convention of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama. Also, during the ceremony, other commissioners were honored after completing a second level of the course.
This unique educational program began 11 years ago and in 1994 it was made mandatory for first-time county commissioners.
The education programs are supervised by the Board of Directors of the Alabama Local Government Training Institute (ALGTI), composed of county officials, educators and members of the Legislature.
