Escambia County High School's first football game of the season may be the toughest one of the season as the Blue Devils travel to Brewton to face the 4A state champions, T.R. Miller High School.
The Blue Devils are coming off a 26-6 loss to Woodham High School during a preseason jamboree game last Friday night in Pensacola.
The Tigers did not participate in a jamboree and will play their first contest against the Blue Devils.
After winning a state championship last year, the Tigers are looking for a repeat. ECHS Head Coach Frankie Bell knows his team faces a tough fight.
The Devils appeared to have a lot of work to do this week in preparation for Miller after their loss to Woodham.
The biggest sore spot for the Devils was along the offensive line.
Miller Head Football Coach Jamie Riggs said the first game is usually more about yourself than the opponent.
He said ECHS playing in a jamboree could give them an edge.
The Tigers and the Blue Devils played a very physical game last season and Riggs said he expects the same type of contest in 2001.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at T.R. Miller High School.
