The Escambia County Cougars defeated IMS 14-6 to earn their third win in a row. This game was a confidence builder for next weeks game against S. Montgomery Academy. S. Montgomery and EA will play next week in the deciding game to see which team will go to the playoffs.
The game against IMS, was a defensive struggle from the start. Neither team could move the ball against the others defense.
Toward the end of the first quarter, Kevin Adair broke a scoreless tie with a five yard touchdown run. J.R. Hall kicked the extra-point to make the score 7-0. Neither scored again before the half.
The third quarter began much like the first half did, with both defenses making the offenses go three and out and punting.
Midway through the third quarter, a bad snap to the punter was recovered by IMS at the Cougar 12 yard-line. IMS then drove it in for a touchdown to make the score 7-6. Following the kickoff, EA drove 55 yards for a touchdown, with Dustin Roberts plunging it in from a yard out. J.R. Hall kicked the extra-point to make the score 14-6. There was no more scoring after that, and the Cougars held on to win 14-6. "On defense we played a great game," Coach Mickey Cannon said. EA's defense played a superb game, allowing IMS only 43 yards of total offense.
EA had 142 total yards for the game. "We were flat on offense," Coach Cannon said. "They had a real good defense and we let them control the line of scrimmage."
Dustin Roberts lead the Cougars in rushing with 13 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown. Roberts also had nine yards on three completions.
Kevin White and Jace Beasley lead the Cougars in tackles with seven apiece. Brandon Moore, and Bradford Price followed with apiece.
Coach Cannon said,"We will work on blocking and pass defense this week in practice because our opponent next week throws the hall quite a lot."
