This Friday night the Escambia County High School Blue Devils play the Blount Leopards in what should be a fantastic game in Atmore. Blount beat the Blue Devils last year in Pritchard, so the Devils want some revenge when they play at home Friday.
The Blue Devils are coming off of 34-20 loss to B. C. Rain high school last Friday night in Mobile. "We played good against B.C. Rain but allowed too many big plays to win, " ECHS head coach Frankie Bell said. "We made some big plays ourselves,'" Bell said, " but not as much as they did".
Chris Simpson and Antonio Richardson both had over 100 yards rushing. James Wilson almost had 100 yards receiving on two catches. The offensive line once again opened up some big holes to run though, and the defense played a good game in the first half.
Blount has beaten Williamson and Cintronelle this year. " They are a good, fast team, with a lot of depth," Coach Bell said.
Blount has just gotten all of their starters back from suspensions for fighting in a game earlier in the year. " They murdered Cintronelle without all of their starters, and since they have had their starters back, do not seem to be playing as well as when they did not have them," Bell said.
Blount has great talent and are just as good as anybody on our league. They are just as good as Robertsdale, and have beaten Williamson.
ECHS made a lot of mistakes in last weeks lost too B.C. Rain. Their defense allowed two critical touchdown runs of 50 or more yards. The secondary blew a coverage that allowed anther long touchdown. Fumbles have also been a problem for the Blue Devils. The offensive line is playing better but still make too many mistakes to win.," Coach Bell said.
The ninth grade football team is practicing with the varsity for the rest of the season. Coach Bell said, "We are going to try to get some of the junior varsity into the game if they practice hard, because they will need the experience for next year."
The game will be at Herbert Barnes stadium in Atmore. Game time will be at 7:30.
