This week the Escambia Academy Cougars will play the South Montgomery Academy Red Raiders in a must-win area game that will decide who will go on to the playoffs and who will not.
South Montgomery put the Cougars out of the playoffs last year and Cougars want revenge.
This game is the biggest game EA has played all year.
The Academy played against IMS last week. The Cougars won 14-6 in a masterful performance by the Cougar defense. The defense held IMS to under 43 yards of total offense.
The only points IMS had came off of a bad snap by EA that put IMS at the Cougar 12 yard-line.
The offense did not score often but they scored enough to win. They had 142 yards of total offense. "They had a real good defense and we let them control the line of scrimmage," Coach Cannon said.
South Montgomery played Ashford last week. They whupped them in a rout 38-6. "South Montgomery dominated every aspect of the game," Coach Cannon said.
South Montgomery is 8-1 this year and at one time this year was ranked number six in the state.
South Montgomery will try to spread the field and run a single back formation on offense with as many as four wide receivers on the field at one time. They will also use a no-huddle offense at times.
On defense S. Montgomery runs a 4-4 defense; four linemen and four linebackers. "South Montgomery loves to throw the ball, so we will also work on our pass defense in practice this week,"Coach Cannon said.
South Montgomery has a very good defense. They will run a 4-4,or a 6-2, but mostly they will use a 5-2 formation on defense.
Coach Cannon said,"We are going to try and run the ball on them."
The game is going to be played at Cougar Stadium. Game time is going to be at 7:30 p.m.
