Mrs. Velma Byrd DeWitt, 68, of Atmore, died Saturday, October 20, 2001, in Pensacola.
She was a retired teller with United Bank.
She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Byrd; her husband, Earl DeWitt; and a brother, Oscar Byrd.
Mrs. DeWitt is survived by her mother, Mrs. Esther Mae Byrd of Atmore; two sisters-in-law, Jean DeWitt Barnett of Navarre and Loraine Byrd of Atmore; two brothers-in-law, Walter DeWitt of Flomaton and Wayne DeWitt of Tallahassee, Fla.; a niece, Anita Daniel and a nephew, David Byrd, both of Atmore; special friends Earl and Joyce Fore and Thomas and Gladys Qualls, and many friends from her previous jobs at United Bank and Creek Bingo Palace.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alan Harper and Bro. Jimmy Dukes officiating.
Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Boothe, Billy Byrd, Wayne Lee, David Byrd, Walter DeWitt and Wayne DeWitt. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Fore, Dr. Ben Maxwell, Curtis Fayard, James Burkett, Leo Luker, Jack Madison, J. C. Moye, Rob Fillmore and Thomas Qualls.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
