The Castleberry Police Department has closed an investigation into the death of an Atmore woman who was struck by a vehicle on County Road 18 on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
LaSheila Elaine Dixon, 28, died of injuries sustained when she was hit by a 1978 Ford pickup truck. A friend of Dixon's, Glendalyn Jenkins, 27, was also struck by the vehicle. According to police she has recovered from her injuries.
Castleberry Police Chief Michael Holmes said the case has been closed.
The accident occurred on County Road 18, or Panther Creek Road, along a section that was poorly-lit, according to Holmes.
He said the two women were walking in the middle of the road, along the poorly-lit section of the road when the 1978 Ford, driven by Jasper Etheridge of Brewton, collided into them.
Holmes said no charges have been filed and none are pending against any persons involved in the accident. He said the investigation is complete and closed.
Lillie Kate Dixon, mother of the victim who died, said in a statement earlier this week that her daughter and friend were walking on the side of the road.
Dixon worked as a forklift operator for Tiger Sunbelt Chemical Company in Atmore.
