prepares for annual
Christmas Parade

The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to participate in the annual 2001 Twilight Christmas Parade featuring the theme, "The Songs of Christmas."
Last year, fire trucks, bands, marchers and other special participants were involved in the parade.
According to Emilie Mims, Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce director, 25 floats participated in last year's event and she is hoping that this year will be even more spectacular.
The parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 5 p.m. Participants in the parade will need to be in line by 3:30 p.m. that day.
The parade is scheduled to begin at City Hall and end at Escambia County High School. A special mandatory safety meeting will be scheduled sometime before the parade to discuss unloading instructions for floats and other vehicles in the parade.
The float entry fee for participating is $10 and is payable to the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce.
Rules for the event include:
No cars or trucks will be allowed (other than antique cars) with the exception of those carrying homecoming, rodeo, Little League queens and Miss Atmore among others.
Due to increased liability, horses with riders will not be permitted.
All trailers carrying children must have fenders over all tires.
Drivers must be 21 or older. Please include this information with your application or as soon as possible.
Each float must have two walking monitors and one observer in the cab other than the driver.
Unloading instructions for floats, etc., will be given to each participant at the safety meeting.
Floats are responsible for their own throws.
Safety meetings will be announced prior to the parade to review rules and safety procedures. Each participating organization is asked to have their driver or a representative attend one of these meetings.
