An Escambia County man was arrested on several drug charges this week according to officials with the 21 Judicial Drug Task Force.
Rodney Plemmons, 33, of 3815 Jack Springs Road in Atmore, was arrested and charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, second degree and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Members of the task force, along with deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, the Atmore Police Department and the Poarch Creek Police Department, executed a search warrant at the residence of Plemmons on Thursday.
Upon searching the residence, agents allegedly recovered 15 plastic bags containing crystal methamphetamines and a small amount of marijuana. Task force officials said various drug paraphernalia, such as razor blades and straws, were also found at the residence.
According to a press release by the task force, the plastic bags containing the crystal methamphetamines were found in a drain underneath Plemmon's mobile home. Task force officials said the suspect tried to flush the evidence down the toilet.
Task Force Lt. Keith Hutchins said Plemmons is a repeat offender and was under investigation for suspicion of illegal drug trafficking.
The estimated street value of the drugs confiscated from Plemmons' residence was $750.
The 21 Judicial Drug Task Force is comprised of the following law enforcement agencies: Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Atmore Police Department, Poarch Creek Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, Brewton Police Department, Flomaton Police Department, Escambia County District Attorney's Office and the Escambia County Commission.
The task force receives 75 percent of its funding from a grant funded by the Bureau of Justice Affairs Division of the United States Department of Justice and which is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The remainder of the funding is provided by the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, Brewton Police Department and the Escambia County District Attorney's Office.
