Century man killed in motorcycle wreck

MOLINO, Fla. A Century man was killed Monday night when his 1982 Honda motorcycle collided with a pick-up in the Molino area on Highway 29.
Joseph Edward Roberts, 47, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash that occurred when his 1982 Honda motorcycle was struck in the rear by 1997 Ford pick-up driven by Jerome Alexander Bowers, 24, of Walnut Hill, according to information obtained from the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the report, the accident occurred Monday night at 11:10 p.m. on Highway 29, just north of Escambia County Road 196.
Bowers was not injured in the collision and neither driver had passengers on board when the accident occurred.
FHP reports indicate that it is unknown whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved. Roberts was wearing a helmet, the report notes, and Bowers was wearing a seatbelt.
According to the report, the motorcycle and the truck were northbound on U.S. 29 traveling in the right lane on the four-lane road. The report indicates that the truck struck the rear of the motorcycle causing the wreck and the fatality.
The motorcycle sustained an estimated $500 in damages and the truck's damages were noted on the report to be approximately $4,000.
According to the FHP, no charges have been filed, but the report notes that charges are "pending" additional investigation.
