Mother Sarah Mildred Poindexter, 85, died Saturday, November 24, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
Mother Poindexter was a native of Tunnell Springs and resident of Atmore for the past 50 years. She was a member of Jones Street True Pentecostal Church where she was Mother of the church and a member of Senior Choir. She was retired after 27 years of service in the cafeteria at Huxford Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Poindexter; a son, Alexander G. Poindexter; a daughter, Luetisha Schertel and her parents, Alexander and Luetisha Lett.
Mother Poindexter is survived by seven daughters, Lena M. Matthews of Jacksonville, Fla., Mildred Poindexter, Cherry Thomas, Jannie Winkey and Bronetta Poindexter, all of Atmore, Lee Robinson and her husband, Hubert, of Mobile and Genetta Cairo and her husband, James, of Randolph, Mass.; four sons, Richard Poindexter and his wife, Edna, of Elizabeth, N. J., Chester L. Poindexter and his wife, Emma, of Los Angeles, Calif., John J. Poindexter and his wife, Mary, of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Issiac Poindexter of Atmore; 34 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 28 at 11 a.m. at Jones Street Holiness Church with Bishop Willie L. Williams officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family and Deacons.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
