Representatives of the Escambia County Soil and Water Conservation Board presented a check to the Escambia County Commission last week that will help finance erosion damage on Pine Barren Creek Road.
Broox Garrett, chairman of the ECSWC board, presented $27,056 to Escambia County Commissioner Larry White for a watershed channel on Pine Barren Creek Road near Atmore.
The road was damaged during a storm in early March. The funds were made available through the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Emergency Watershed Protection Program and the United States Department of Agriculture.
According to county officials, rock rip-rap was used to repair the damage and protect the grade control structure from future threats from similar storms.
Among those on hand at the event on Thursday, Dec. 20, was Garrett, Robert Hawkins, NRCS; Steve Cramer, Cramer Doxer Service, which did the work on Pine Barren Road; Frank Nalty, secretary of the ECSWC; Bill Bridges, assistant county engineer and Larry White, Escambia County Commission Chairman.Robert Hawkins said the NRCS was pleased to supply the county with the funds needed to make the repairs.
The money provided funded about 75 percent of the total cost of the project.White said he was pleased the work was done and thanked the board for helping fund the project.
