Roadwork in the city of Atmore continues, and now work originally projected to be completed in mid-December will now not be complete until sometime in January.
According to Mayor Howard Shell, no set time has been made to complete the road work on Owens Street or South Main Street, but the city hopes to have all the work completed by late January.
"We're just going to take it one day at a time," Mayor Howard Shell said.
Shell said the reason for the construction is to replace old and small drainage pipes and sewage drains to prevent flooding.
Shell said the new lines will definitely increase the amount of drainage water the sewer system can carry.
"This will effectively increase the drainage system's ability by about 300 percent," Shell said.
Shell said the loss of revenues from December's sales tax break will not affect funding for roadwork and that construction will continue.
"We'll keep on until we get it done," Shell said.
