Investigators with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office acquired enough evidence to post an arrest in an attempted murder case that they have been working on since October. The victim of the crime has since been listed as missing and a search has been ongoing for the past three weeks.
Bruce Edward Day, 34, of James Road in the Nokomis community was arrested Friday, Jan. 4 for two counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies responded to James Road on Oct. 28 for a reported shooting incident. At that time, deputies learned that Day had fired three shots with a pistol toward a vehicle occupied by Woodrow "Token" Allen and a female juvenile. According to ECSO officials, the shooting caused the vehicle to wreck into an embankment of sand.
Allen has since been reported as a missing person. Investigators are continuing to investigate that disappearance. He was last seen in the Nokomis area on Thursday, Dec. 13, walking away from Donald Clemmons's residence.
Escambia County Sheriff Tim Hawsey said in a press release that deputies made several attempts to arrest Day. When they did find him, they allegedly found him in possession of methamphedimines.
Also in the vehicle was Donald David "D.C." Clemmons, 39, of Nathan Road in Nokomis. This is the same Clemmons whose house Allen was last seen walking away from. Clemmons was arrested and charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the narcotics allegedly found that evening and with one count of possession of a controlled substance from narcotics that was found on Clemmons during a prior arrest.
On Monday, bond was set for Day at $130,000 and Bond was given a bond of $2,500 for the charges against him.
Allen, 25, was reported missing by his mother on Monday, Dec. 17. She had not seen her son since Thursday, Dec. 13. According to officials, Allen made the walk through the woods from Clemmons home in a trailer park to his own house on numerous occasions.
Investigators are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Allen. Hawsey said that if anyone has any information on the location of Allen they should contact the Escambia County Sheriff
