The Northview Chiefs finished closing out their week with a 70-35 blowout of the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles.
The Chiefs came into the Blue Eagles game winners of six out of their last nine games, and wanted to keep the streak alive with a win against W.S. Neal.
"We really played our best game of the year tonight, " Chief Head Coach Cliff Gillis said. " "We had probably our best game shooting from the floor and from the free-throw line.
The game started out really well for the Chiefs, as they rode their awesome shooting from the field and the line to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was no different for the Blue Eagles as the Chiefs dominated the quarter outscoring the Eagles 25-15 to take a 26-point lead, 41-15 heading into half-time.
W.S. Neal finally got something going in the third quarter. They outscored the Chiefs 20-15 for the quarter and trimmed the Chiefs lead by five, 56-20 , heading into the final period.
W.S. Neal would gain no more ground in the last quarter however, as they were outscored 15-14 by the Chiefs for the quarter. as the Chiefs won the game 70-35.
"This game was a whole team effort, " Gillis said. "We shot better than 50% from the field, and when we do that we should win."
"We played as good as we did in the Atmore game, " Gillis said. "But we did not let down in the fourth quarter this time."
Daryl Cohen, Jason Gillis, and Mendell Smith played awesome games for the Chiefs. Cohen lead the
Chiefs in points with 20 points on the night. The last two games Cohen is averaging 24 points a game and has really stepped up to lead this Chiefs team.
"I think what has helped we this year to become a better player is, how hard we have been working lifting weights and shooting every day during 7th period, " Cohen said.
"I love having control of the game when it comes down to the wire," Cohen said. " When you have the ball at the end of the game, with a win or a loss on your shoulders, thier is no better feeling. "
Jason Gillis also had a high-scoring game for the Chiefs with 18 points on the night. Gillis is just starting to find his shot back, after being injured most of the first half of the season.
"When I broke my foot at the beginning of the year, it messed up my timing, " Gillis said. I practiced every day over Christmas holidays to improve my shot, and I think its started to work."
Mendell Smith also had a great game for the Chiefs. He had his fourth double double of the year against the Eagles. He had 12 points and 11 rebounds on the night.
Terrance Grice also had eight points for the Chiefs.
The leading scorers for W.S. Neal were Marcus Folmar and Chris Wilson. Folmar had eight points for the Eagles and Wilson had six points in the loss.
