Mr. O. L. "Doc" Vickery, a native of Atmore and a resident of Mobile since 1947, died in a local hospital on Friday, December 21, 2001.
Mr. Vickery retired from the Mobile Fire Department as an assistant fire chief after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Mobile Youth Baseball Hall of Fame, was active in the building of Tremmier Park and was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where he was active with the nursing home ministry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lea Vickery and a son, Waly Manning.
He is survived by four children, Charles K. (Sherrie) Manning of Mobile, Janice Vickery (Walter) Myers of Olive Branch, Miss., Glenn (Nancy) Vickery of Mobile, and Jimmy Vickery of Montgomery; two sisters, Sid Etheridge of Atmore and Elliel Wiggins of Lillian; eleven
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at Riverside Baptist Church on Monday, December 24 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Eddie Holmes officiating.
Burial was at Pine Crest Cemetery. Full fire department honors were rendered at the graveside by Mobile Fire Rescue Department Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were John Aikens, Billy Howard, Allen Burelson, Sonny Wolfe, Earl Collier, Ervin Fail, Ben Glover, Lambert Mims, Chuck Potts and all active and retired firefighters of the Mobile Fire rescue Department.
Radney Funeral Home in Mobile was in charge of arrangements.
