Ms. Leola Matthews Brazzell, 60, died Friday, January 18, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
She was a native of Wilcox County and past resident of Atmore, Detroit, Mich., and Houston. She worked as a day care provider.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Brazzell; her mother, Georgia Mae Matthews; a son, Willie "Sonny" Matthews and her grandparents, Clarence Henry and Betty Packer.
Ms. Brazzell is survived by three daughters, Johnnie Mae Matthews of Troy, Debra Matthews of Houston and Joyce Timmes and her husband, Eddie, of Mobile; her father, Willie Matthews of Atmore; five sisters, Cora Matthews, Charlotte Matthews, both of Atmore, Mary Roberson and her husband, Marcell, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Karen Orange and her husband, Marion, of Talladega and Willie Lee Williams of Mobile; three brothers, Clarence Matthews and his wife, Lucille, of Atmore, Cary Matthews and his wife, Clara of Brewton, and Robert Matthews of Mobile; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 26 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Monroe Tucker Jr. and the Rev. Harold Askew officiating
Burial was at Stallworth Cemetery.
Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
