A robbery last Saturday has left Atmore police with many questions and much concern.
The North Main Street Shell Station was robbed at around 4 a.m. last Saturday morning by an unknown assailant.
In recent weeks a number of robberies have occurred at local businesses, most recently at the Snappy Car Wash last Tuesday. The last convenience store robbery was at Danny's Quick Stop on Jan. 14.
However, Atmore Police Department Chief Danny McKinley said there is no need for alarm.
Police said eyewitnesses described the suspect as a black male, wearing a khaki-colored quilt jacket with a hood and a red bandana covering his face.
According to McKinley, the suspect entered the store, walked around inside for a few moments, then went behind the counter and demanded money from the clerk.
The suspect, according to McKinley, was "brandishing a knife," and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.
The suspect then demanded the clerk retreat to the bathroom and lock herself there.
The suspect fled on foot, but current information provided from the investigation has not yet determined the suspect's direction.
Police do not have any leads at this time and do not suspect this incident to be related to other recent robberies.
