The Escambia County High School Blue Devils finished off a crucial week last night in Atmore with their 75-34 plastering of the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles.
With the extremely important end of the year area tournament coming up, the Blue Devils wanted to use their three remaining games of the year as momentum builders for the tournament.
They Blue Devils took their first step with their total domination of the Blue Eagles. The Blue Eagles were burned from the start as the Blue Devils came out of the locker room on fire. The Devils outscored the Eagles 22-9 for the quarter and never relinquished their lead for the entire game.
The second quarter was no different for the Eagles as they were outscored by the Devils by 17 points, 21-4, for the quarter. The Devils used their explosive scoring in the half to build a 30-point lead, 43-13, at half-time.
The Devils slowed down their scoring in the third quarter as they only scored 10 points in the quarter. The Devils still managed to outscore Neal however, 10-7, to build the lead to 33 points, 53-30, heading into the fourth quarter.
The Devils matched their biggest scoring output of the night in the fourth quarter, as they scored 22 points for the second time in the game. The Devils 22 points erased all hopes of a comeback for the Eagles as they were decimated by 41 points, 75-34.
One of the biggest keys in the Devils in was their points distribution. The Devils had four players score in double figures, and also had two players with eight.
Barrett Finney lead the Blue Devils in points with 20 points on the night. Finney also dazzled the crowd with a showcase of dunks that any player would be proud of.
Kenny Clarke followed for the Devils with 12 points on the night. Clarke has really come around as the season progressed. He can score inside and out and is around the top of the team in rebounds.
Katral Johnson and Terrance Hazley also had 10 points on the night for the Blue Devils.
One of the keys for W.S. Neal's loss was their absence of a single player in double figures.
Keith Woods lead the Eagles in points with seven on the night. Marcus Folmar followed with six points. T.J. Pitts also had five points on the night for the Eagles.
The Devils next game will be against Crestview High School in Atmore on Saturday night. The game will start at 6:00 and will be for girls and boys varsity teams only.
