One man is in stable condition after he was stabbed while attempting to break up a fight late Saturday night.
Joshua Wilson, 19, of Atmore was stabbed 4 times after he attempted to break up a fight between two black males.
Wendell Lewis, 44, of Atmore was arrested Sunday by Foley police and charged with Assault, second degree, in the stabbing of Wilson.
Lewis was fighting with another male identified as Travis Leslie in a residents yard at the 200 block of Liberty Street.
According to a disposition by an eyewitness, when Wilson attempted to intervene and break up the fight, Lewis stabbed Wilson "3 or 4 times" in his abdomen.
A neighbor contacted the Atmore Police Department who responded to the scene. When they arrived Lewis and Leslie had fled the scene. Wilson was transported to the hospital and placed in guarded condition.
According to the APD, Wilson sustained damage to his liver and appendix. Atmore Community Hospital doctors removed Wilson's appendix and repaired damage to his liver.
Wilson was released from ACH Tuesday morning. ACH officials say that Wilson was in stable condition when he left and walked from the hospital.
Lewis will be transported to the Escambia County (Ala.) Jail.
Lt. Charles Elliard, investigator with the APD said the case is still under investigation.
