The Escambia County High School Lady Blue Devils started out their softball season last Friday night in Atmore with a loss to local rival Northview High School Chiefs, 5-0.
The game was not as lopsided as the score says. The score was 0-0 going into the top of the seventh inning when Lady Devil pitcher Leslie Presley started tiring and the Lady Chiefs took advantage.
The Lady Chiefs scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning on a mixture of errors and timely hitting.
The Lady Devils put up a game effort in the final inning but could not come up with a run on Lady Chief's starter Stephanie Haynes, as Northview got the victory 5-0.
Stephanie Hayes pitched an awesome game for the Lady Chiefs. She pitched the whole game for the Chiefs, allowing only two hits and no walks. She also had mind-blowing 15 strikeouts. The Lady Devils could not catch up with her fastball and when they did she fooled them with her changeup.
Leslie Presley pitched a good game for the Devils also, allowing only seven hits (six in final inning), and two walks. She also had one strikeout.
Caitlan Bryan lead the Lady Chiefs at the plate as she went 2/3 with a single and a double and scored one run.
Erin Cook, Kelly Dunsford, Chelsea Hardin, and Megan Bryan all followed for the Lady Chiefs as they went 1/3 and all scored a run.
Valisa Hadley and Leslie Presley lead the Lady Devils at the plate, as they both went 1/3.
The Lady Devils next game will be against the Robertsdale Golden Bears in Atmore on Tuesday night. The game will start at 5:00 and admission will be $ 3.00.
