Mrs. Merlene Phillips Sowell, age 62 of Walnut Hill, Fla. died Friday February 15, 2002. She was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County, Fla. and a member of Pace Assembly of God Church. She was a loving wife, mother, gradmother and was loved by all that knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Rev. Grady Sowell of Walnut Hill, Fla.; a daughter, Tana Evans of Pearidge, Fla.; a son, Wayne Kilpatrick of San Antonio, Texas; step-children, Ron Sowell of Castleberry, Ala., Rick Sowell and wife, Pam of Jay, Fla. Eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Wilcox and husband Wendell of Atmore, Jean Soloman and husband Tommie of Davisville, Fla., Emma Reynolds of Davisville, Fla.; four brothers, Clarence Phillips and wife Maralyn of Walnut Hill, Fla., Lindy Phillips and wife Marie of Davisville, Fla., David Phillips and wife Irene of Willington, N.C. and Willard Phillips and wife Mary of Pensacola, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday February 19, 2002 at 10 a.m. from the Pace Assembly of God Church with Rev. Glen Lowery, Rev. Tommy Moore and Rev. Gene Hudson officiating. Interment followed in the Pensacola Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Davis officiating at graveside. Pallbearers were Landon Sowell, Nathan Evans, Robert Kilpatrick, Jr., Dale Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Mike Phillips, Gaylen Phillips and Barry Phillips.
Faith Chapel of Cantonment was in charge of arrangements.
