Qualifications end for Democrats

The Democratic candidates who will seek the party's nomination in the June 4 primary election is set as qualifying ended last week.
The office of county tax collector has four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination. Tommy Fields, Michael W. Hanks, Joffrey N. Tullis and Joy Wiggins have all qualified to run for the office.
There will be three Democrats seeking the office of sheriff. Incumbent Tim Hawsey will seek re-election against Mickey Powell and Grover Smith, all qualified as Democrats. So far, no Republicans are seeking the sheriff's office.
Earl Self and incumbent Larry White are each seeking the Democratic nomination for county commission, district 3.
County commission, district 5 has three Democrats seeking the nomination as incumbent Wiley Tait is being challenged by Clark Thompson and Bennie H. Watson.
Other Democrats qualifying include: David Stokes who will seek re-election for county commissioner, district 1; Jim Hildreth for tax assessor; Willie James Grissett as an incumbent for district 5 representative on the Escambia County School Board and Michael Goolsby will seek re-election to the county BOE's district 1 seat.
